Cancellations & Postponements
All swimming activities are canceled until further notice at the Baker Rec Center, so they can fix the leak in the pool. Activities will be rescheduled after the repairs have been completed.
A Public Information Statement has been issued for Northeast Montana:
The following items will help prepare for severe storms:
For those who absolutely must travel...tell others what route you are taking and when you expect to arrive. Call them once you have arrived. Also, carry a winter survival kit with the following items in it:
-cell phone
-NOAA Weather radio and/ or local radio
-flashlight with extra batteries
-first aid kit
-blankets
-season- appropriate clothing
-whistle to signal for help
-moist towelettes, garbage bags and ties
-basic tool kit including a knife
-portable shovel
-small axe or saw
-tow rope
-spare tire
-starter fluid, extra oil, and de- icer
-flares
-cat litter or sand
-booster cables
-water: at least one gallon per person
-high energy food
-prescription medications
-aluminum can to heat melted snow in
-matches
Things to prepare at home or work before the storm hits:
-fuel up your vehicle to full capacity
-stock up on perishable groceries such as milk and bread
-have at least 3 gallons of water per day/ per person for three days
-stock up on prescription medications
-stock up on diapers and formula if there is a baby or toddler in the home
-check up on elderly family members or neighbors, especially those in rural areas and make sure they have enough supplies or offer to shelter them before the storm hits.
-check your alternate heat source, if you don't have one, consider what you will do if you lose power for several hours or days
-pull out flashlights and battery powered radios, make sure you have extra batteries if needed
-have fire extinguishers and a first aid kit on hand
Things to do if power is lost:
-cover windows with blankets
-cover the base of doors with blankets
-block off rooms that are not used
-have an older style phone that plugs into the wall to use for emergencies and checking in on relatives and elderly neighbors
-if you need help: call 911
-if using a generator, make sure it is properly maintained and hooked up. Make sure it is vented properly to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning in the home.
After the storm:
-take it easy on snow removal... hire a contractor to remove large amounts of snow with equipment
-make sure vents on roof are cleared
-dress appropriately wearing several layers of loose fitting clothing... it is often coldest immediately after the storm has cleared the area
Winter Weather Advisory Definition:
2 to 5 inches of snow in 12 hours, a combination of snow and wind causing an inconveniance, or an inch or less of snow producing slick roads.
Winter Storm Warning Definition:
6" of snow, or more in 12 hours, or 8" of snow or more in 24 hours.
